In 2018 the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) adopted the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to grant special consultative status to EURAO.
This recognition allows EURAO to be heard in the subsidiary bodies of the UN and even participate in its meetings in person.
Anyway, the initial intention of EURAO was just to make itself, modestly, available to UN and its NGOs, learn from them and collect information and knowledge. As it is well known, Amateur Radio is of great help in: developing countries, emergency communications, health, education, etc. Some of EURAO members carry out an outstanding work in this sense: with children, with indigenous communities, with migrants, etc.
To know more about benefits of the consultative status, there is this interesting booklet (right), in several languages, entitled "Working with ECOSOC".
On the personalized confirmation letter received, you can also find a short list of privileges and obligations that organisations with consultative status have to take into account.
This grant is really a great honor for EURAO, as well as a responsibility before the global radio amateurs community.
